About

I’m the Managing Producer at The New Yorker Radio Hour and also interview LGBTQ+ elders on my long-running interview podcast, LGBTQ&A.

Created in 2016, I’ve conducted almost 300 interviews for the show (including people like Angela Davis, Laverne Cox, Janelle Monáe, Pete Buttigieg, and Billie Jean King), and for the last few years have focussed exclusively on interviews with LGBTQ+ elders. Those interviews are archived on LGBTQ&A’s website here.

LGBTQ&A has been featured in The New York Times, The Advocate, USA Today, NBC, NewNowNext, People Magazine, Page Six, and was ranked #2 on a list of the top podcasts to listen to by Buzzfeed.

Here’s my recent interview with Sam Smith for The New Yorker Radio Hour.

I’ve written for The New Yorker, The Advocate (including the June 2021 cover story with Niecy Nash), Out Magazine, Electric Literature, PopSugar, HIV Plus Magazine, and Hello Mr.

In 2021, I received a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Print Article for my reporting, and was also included in Logo TV’s inaugural #Logo30 list of influential LGBTQ+ people.

Here’s what Logo had to say (as well as the video feature you can watch here):

“Whether he’s chatting with seminal AIDS advocate Cleve Jones or rising powerhouses like Our Lady J and Keiynan Lonsdale, Masters digs deep, surpassing expected coming out stories in favor of examining specific life moments that have defined the queer luminaries we love.”

And lastly — I know, it’s a lot of me me me me me — you can watch a clip of my most recent MSNBC segment talking about HIV stigma here.

“If you want to understand what it sounds like when a host is prepared, look no further than Jeffrey Masters. His interest in his guests’ stories, as well as his encouraging manner, allows him to get beyond the surface whether he’s interviewing activists or members of the entertainment industry.”- The New York Times

“The overused term “overnight success” is supremely apt in the case of Jeffrey Masters.” – The Advocate

“Masters is a superb interviewer.” – Mashable

Masters welcomes high-profile people…with his unique brand of probing curiosity.” – Oprah Daily

“…thoughtful, humble, and inquisitive journalist” – Women’s Health
